Is this school just for youth and young adults who speak Spanish? No, its for all. We just are the first film and TV acting forum for youth that has a curriculum for both languages. So monolingual English speakers are encouraged to join. Our curriculum is taught in English for the first 40 minutes, the rest of the time, youth pick which language they want to practice/train in (monologues, commercials, improve, etc).
We founded this school understanding that youth who want to be able to act in both languages must have the space, environment, and teachers to ensure that. There are many Spanish acting coaches, but schools for youth that focus on film and TV and do so in both English in Spanish are not salient and perhaps nonexistant. There are a few bilingual or Spanish acting schools for youth for theatre, but not for film and TV. The Stella Adler Academy offers classes in Spanish for adults. We decided it was time to create a forum to meet this need.
Remember, one is as good as one practices, and if actors who want to be great at bilingual acting do not have a forum to train or practice, then their acting skills in that language will not be maintained nor fine-tuned.
Now is Spanish acting training just for youth who want to be on Spanish TV or Spanish films? Not necessarily. We are training bilingual acting for mainstream English screen. There is no doubt that the industry is embracing the fact that the Hispanic market has increased dramatically. They are incorporating bilingual actors into English programming and films. Hollywood agents are creating Spanish departments within their firms and more Latino-specific casting directors are popping up.
