Who We are
Actors Youth Academy (AYA) serves youth ages 4-17 and adults. Hollywood has been switching gears. In 2013, the U.S. Latino market ranked as the 12th largest economy in the world, and it is well documented that no entertainment outlet can thrive without Hispanics. More and more bilingual roles are being casted for bilingual commercials, TV sitcoms, and films. Although many roles will be aimed at English-speaking Latinos, many also will be looking for individuals who speak both languages not to communicate in Spanish only per se, but to give English-language programming a sensibility Latinos may relate to. The academy was created by a bilingual child actor’s mother who could not find an English/Spanish acting school for film and TV where her son could practice his craft in both languages. Just like in English, a bilingual actor needs a place to consistently train and practice in Spanish. This is like training/practicing all week to play football, and on Saturday, playing soccer hoping you will do well. If you’re going to go to auditions in both English and Spanish, you have to practice your craft in both languages. With that said, we honor and embrace diversity. So our students who are multi-lingual in languages other than Spanish, get the opportunity to also practice their craft in their own language. We engage parents to translate materials they have worked on in class to their other language and we coach accordingly.

We offer an individualized curriculum so students get materials for performances that challenge them at whatever level they are at. For youth without agents, we create agent showcases from footage of filmed performances. We were the first youth film & TV academy to offer students the opportunity to practice their craft in both English & Spanish. We are parent friendly. We teach youth to be fully self-expressed with integrity (values, principles, goals, etc).
